A 65th Anniversary celebration! Acclaimed for its dramatic expression, technical mastery and expansive, yet nuanced movement, the Limón Dance Company illustrates the timelessness of modern dance pioneer José Limón’s work and vision. The Company’s repertory, which balances classic works with commissions from contemporary choreographers, is of an unparalleled breadth, creating unique experiences for audiences around the world.
For their Seattle engagement the company will perform a selection of Limón’s masterpieces and will preview Come with Me, a new commission pairing Rodrigo Pederneiras, principal choreographer of Brazil’s Grupo Corpo, and world-renowned Cuban musician and composer Paquito D’Rivera. Come With Me is inspired by D’Rivera’s music “Ladies in White,” named for Cuba’s legendary recipients of the prestigious Sakharov human rights award who silently walk the streets dressed in white with gladiolas in their hands to protest the imprisonment of dissidents.
Come With Me will be performed Thursday and Friday only. Saturday’s performance will be dedicated to an All-Limón Retrospective.
