April 16, 2012 – Seattle Public School Students and Marian Anderson String Quartet Make Music Together at Night of Strings at Meany Hall On May 16, 2012, UW World Series will host Night of Strings, a collaborative performance featuring student violinists from Bailey Gatzert Elementary, the junior orchestra from Washington Middle School, and Marian Anderson String Quartet.

April 11, 2012 – Pianist Angela Hewitt to Perform Rameau, Bach, and Couperin. This marks Ms. Hewitt’s fourth appearance on the President’s Piano Series.

April 10, 2012 – Top Dutch Dance Company, Introdans, to Make Seattle Debut in First U.S. Tour. One of the Netherlands premier dance companies, Introdans debuts in the U.S. with a tour of Heavenly, a retrospective journey that includes three works showcasing the company’s eclectic and exciting repertory.

March 22, 2012 – Cedric Watson & Bijou Creole Bring the Bayou to Meany Hall One of the most notable young talents to emerge in Cajun or Creole music in the past few years, four-time Grammy-nominated Cedric Watson is a fiddler, vocalist, accordionist and songwriter of seemingly unlimited potential.

March 15, 2012 – Emerson String Quartet to perform Mozart’s “King of Prussia” Quartets The Emerson String Quartet has been anchoring the International Chamber Music Series since 1988 when they made their Seattle debut right here on the Meany stage.

March 8, 2012 – Australian dance troupe Chunky Move makes their first appearance at Meany Hall with Connected. Founded in 1995, Chunky Move has earned an enviable reputation for producing a distinct yet unpredictable brand of genre-defying dance performance.

February 9, 2012 – Calder Quartet to play Mozart, Jacob Ter Veldhuis, and Beethoven The members of the “superb” (New York Times) Calder Quartet are the closest thing to rock stars you’ll find in the world of classical quartets.

February 2, 2012 – Pianist Garrick Ohlsson to Play All-Liszt Program at Meany Hall in Celebration of the Composer’s 200th Birthday Garrick Ohlsson has become well-known to Seattle audiences. This recital, in which the pianist will celebrate the 200th anniversary of Franz Liszt’s birth, will mark his 13th performance as part of the President’s Piano Series.

January 13, 2012 – Limón Dance Company Replaces Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba, Brings 65th Anniversary Program and a Special Preview Performance of New Work by Grupo Corpo Choreographer A 65th Anniversary celebration! Acclaimed for its dramatic expression, technical mastery and expansive, yet nuanced movement, the Limón Dance Company illustrates the timelessness of modern dance pioneer José Limón’s work and vision.

January 12, 2012 – Ritz Chamber Players to Give World Premiere of Night Visions of Kippur by James Lee III The Ritz Chamber Players is hailed by The Baltimore Sun as ―one of the most interesting and dynamic ensembles to emerge in recent years.

January 6, 2012 – Piano Prodigy Jan Lisiecki to Perform J.S. Bach, Beethoven, Liszt, Mendelssohn, and Chopin Piano prodigy Jan Lisiecki was only nine when he made his orchestral debut.

December 22, 2011 – Shen Wei Dance Arts to Perform Limited States at Meany Hall Each work by Artistic Director Shen Wei develops an original dance vocabulary incorporating visual and storytelling elements from the theater, Chinese opera, Eastern philosophy, traditional and contemporary visual art, and sculpture.

December 7, 2011 – Free Youth Ticket Offer Extended to All Remaining 2011-12 Classical Performances The success of the program’s pilot encouraged the expansion of the offer to the rest of the season.

November 3, 2011 – Israeli Folk Singer Chava Alberstein to Perform Songs of Protest, Peace and Love One of Israel’s most popular and enduring singers, Chava Alberstein is a gifted storyteller with a husky, soulful voice reminiscent of Edith Piaf.

October 19, 2011 – Enchanting Alonzo King LINES Ballet Returns to Meany Hall This celebrated contemporary ballet company is guided by its uniquely global artistic vision.

October 13, 2011 – Piano Virtuoso Nikolai Lugansky to Perform Chopin and Liszt at Meany Hall Capable of great refinement and sensitivity in Chopin and Mozart, and breathtaking virtuosity in Liszt and Rachmaninov, Nikolai Lugansky is a pianist of extraordinary depth and versatility.

October 10, 2011 – Mali’s Ngoni Sensation Bassekou Kouyate at Meany Hall Virtuoso picker and musical visionary whose work blurs the lines between West African and American roots music.

October 6, 2011 – Cuarteto Casals to Play Works by Arriaga, Turina, and Schubert in Meany Hall Debut One of Europe’s most distinguished string quartets, this Spanish ensemble has garnered extensive critical acclaim and won top prizes at many international competitions.

September 16, 2011 – Internationally-Renowned Pianist, Till Fellner, Makes Meany Hall Debut To perform works by Haydn, Armstrong, Liszt, and Schumann.

September 7, 2011 – Pilobolus Program Changed To Include All Is Not Lost The piece was created for a music video collaboration with the Grammy-winning rock band OK Go and director Trish Sie.

August 29, 2011 – Pilobolus kicks off the 2011-12 World Dance Series with a program of fan-favorites at Meany Hall, Thursday-Saturday, October 6-8, 2011. The UW World Series first presented Pilobolus in 1982, and this appearance marks their 6th as a part of the Dance Series.

August 23, 2011 – The Carpe Diem String Quartet performs at Meany Hall Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 8:00 PM With their innovative programming, thematic concerts, and electrifying performances, these musicians are committed to bringing new audiences to chamber music.

June 28, 2011 – Michelle Witt Appointed Executive Director of Meany Hall and Artistic Director of UW World Series Witt’s appointment begins on August 1, 2011 when she will step into a newly created role that combines the administration of the hall and the management of the UW World Series.

February 22, 2011 – UW World Series Announces 2011-12 Season The UW World Series announces the 2011-12 season for its four separate performing arts series that present acclaimed artists from around the globe in dance, chamber music, piano and world music.

November 1, 2010 – Founding Director To Retire After 29 Years Matthew Krashan, Director of the University of Washington World Series, has announced that he will be retiring in September 2011 after 29 years of leading the program.
