The Juilliard String Quartet continues its tradition of vibrant performance with Joseph Lin as its new first violinist and Juilliard faculty colleague. The quartet is celebrated the world over for its technical excellence and interpretive expressiveness. The Juilliard performs nearly the complete repertory for string quartet in ways that thrill audiences as well as composers, and is known for playing new works as if they were established masterpieces, and established masterpieces as if they were new. This season marks the end of an era for the Quartet—Samuel Rhodes, the group’s violist since 1969, will step down from the group in 2013. Roger Tapping, who played for 10 years with the Takács Quartet, will take over starting in 2013-14.

Program:
Mozart: String Quartet in D Major, K. 575
Carter: String Quartet No. 5
Beethoven: String Quartet in C Sharp Minor, Op. 131
