The electrifying Brazilian contemporary dance company Grupo Corpo combines the sensuality of Afro-Brazilian dance forms, the liquid swing of jazz, and the technical prowess of ballet, with energy to burn. The heart and soul of the company is the Pederneiras family, who collaborate to produce powerful work of stunning physicality, dynamic ability, and rich visual finesse. Grupo Corpo will perform two of its most celebrated works, both Seattle premieres: Sem Mim, inspired by the sea and the songs of medieval Galician-Portuguese troubadors, and O Corpo, exploring ideas about movement and the human body.
A pre-performance lecture by Megan Brunsvold, M.F.A. candidate, UW Dance Program, takes place each night at 7:10-7:30pm in the main auditorium.
