Artists in Schools
“It’s one thing to have a music teacher teach about the music and play recorded examples, but bringing the musical concert experience to these students ‘live’ has a huge impact.” —Elementary School Music Coordinator
Each year, Community Connections partners with the Ladies Musical Club, Seattle Public Schools, and Seattle Music Partners to offer area schools the opportunity to experience our free in-school residencies offered by many of the same world-class artists we bring to the Meany stage.
We have a made a commitment to focus at least 50% of our efforts in Central District Schools as part of our Central District Performing Arts Partnership. Currently, we serve Leschi Elementary, Bailey Gatzert Elementary and Washington Middle School with frequent artist visits and mini-master classes with students in the Seattle Music Partners program.
In the 2011-2012 season, the following artists will visit Seattle Public Schools to share performing arts experiences from various cultural backgrounds and work with students to help ignite and further their interest in the performing arts:
In addition, this year, Marian Anderson String Quartet will spend two weeks with students from Bailey Gatzert Elementary and Washington Middle School, preparing them to take the stage with the quartet in our semi-annual Night of Strings event, to be held this year at Meany Hall on Friday, May 18th.
