Garrick Ohlsson has become well-known to Seattle audiences. This recital marks his 12th performance as part of the President’s Piano Series. The warm reception he has received each time is no surprise. Since his triumph as winner of the 1970 Chopin International Piano Competition, Ohlsson has established himself worldwide as a musician of magisterial interpretive and technical prowess. Although he has long been regarded as one of the world’s leading exponents of the music of Frederic Chopin, Mr. Ohlsson commands an enormous repertoire, which ranges over the entire piano literature.
Program (subject to change)
Chopin: Nocturne in F Major, Op. 15, No. 1; Études, Op. 25 (excerpts); Polonaise in F-sharp Minor, Op. 44; Mazurka in A Minor, Op. 17, No. 4; Scherzo in B Minor, Op. 20

Garrick Ohlsson replaces pianist Nelson Freire who was previously scheduled for this date. Freire’s management company, CAMI, reports that, “Due to a flare up of tendonitis, Nelson Freire has been strongly advised by his doctors that he must cancel his upcoming North American tour.” Tickets to the cancelled event will be honored at the Ohlsson recital. If you are a ticket-holder to the Nelson Freire recital, and you have questions, please call the UW Arts Ticket Office at 206-543-4880 no later than March 15, 2011.
